Midlands Technical College Police Department Equips All 15 Patrol Cars with Avive AEDs to Strengthen Campus Emergency Response
MTC expands its campus safety infrastructure by equipping every patrol car with next-generation, connected AED technology

San Francisco, CA — May 15, 2026 — Midlands Technical College (MTC) in South Carolina has taken a significant step forward in community emergency preparedness. This spring, the Midlands Technical College Police Department (MTCPD) purchased and installed 15 Avive Connect AED®s for all patrol cars. MTC police officers now have access to the most up-to-date equipment needed for life-saving situations. Each officer has been trained on the Avive AEDs to provide the best care in an emergency.
A key feature of the Avive Connect AED is its built-in connectivity. The device is the first and only AED that automatically alerts 911 when deployed and transmits real-time incident data, giving MTCPD officers a direct line between the scene and emergency services from the moment they respond. Unlike traditional AEDs, this connectivity also enables officers to automatically share critical incident data with EMS and hospital teams: improving continuity of care from the very first moments of a response.
Because law enforcement is decentralized, officers are dispersed throughout the community at all times - meaning they frequently arrive on scene before EMS or fire crews who must respond from centralized stations. In cardiac emergencies where every second counts, this positions police officers to begin resuscitation and deliver defibrillation before paramedics arrive. The Avive Connect AED is designed with this reality in mind: intuitive enough for any officer to operate under pressure, and connected enough that command staff can manage deployment without administrative burden.
"All MTCPD officers are certified as Class 1 Law Enforcement officers through the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy," said MTC Police Chief Tim Martin. "The AED training is just one part of the advanced training they receive regularly to maintain the highest standards of law enforcement and safety."
This deployment builds on MTC's existing safety infrastructure. The college already has more than 45 AEDs installed across its campuses, alongside emergency call boxes at key locations throughout its facilities. Adding AEDs to patrol vehicles reinforces MTC's longstanding commitment to the health and safety of its students, faculty, staff, and surrounding community.
Avive partners with law enforcement agencies nationwide to integrate life-saving capability into everyday patrol operations - turning every officer into a prepared, equipped first responder for cardiac emergencies.
