“Within the MLS we have to travel to cold weather teams…you never know what we’re going to walk into. We’re traveling, we’re in another country. The Avive AED can go with us very easily and then we don’t have to take an AED away from the facility.”

Tyler Killinger has been with Orlando City SC of Major League Soccer for over six years, advancing to the role of Head Athletic Trainer in 2022. In this leadership position, he manages the entire medical operation for the MLS first team as well as the club’s academy system, which spans from the professional men’s roster down to the U-12 level.
Tyler delivers hands-on clinical care while leading a multidisciplinary medical team at Orlando City SC. His responsibilities span injury treatment, rehabilitation, return-to-play protocols, manages eight additional athletic trainers on-site, and coordinates the daily medical operations across both the MLS team and academy levels. Each day begins with planning safety protocols, organizing rehab sessions, and providing sideline medical support during training. He works directly with over 50 athletes daily, primarily the 30+ professional men's players, while supporting a broader system of more than 200 athletes. Tyler travels with the team, overseeing care for both players and 20-30 accompanying staff members.
While Orlando City SC has AEDs placed throughout the stadium, Tyler chooses to carry the Avive Connect AED with him at all times to ensure immediate access to life-saving equipment, whether on the sidelines or traveling with the team.
He values the Avive Connect for its durability in harsh conditions, lightweight portability, and smart features like GPS tracking and automated maintenance reminders. Its rugged design handles splashes, dirt, and the demands of professional soccer environments with ease.
By keeping a personal AED, Tyler avoids depleting stadium resources and ensures he's always prepared, especially on game days when he’s responsible not just for athletes, but also for referees, staff, and nearby spectators. With a unit always on hand, he doesn't have to rely on wall-mounted devices that may be minutes away in an emergency.
Hear from Tyler on why the Avive Connect AED is essential in his role and how it supports Orlando City SC’s commitment to emergency readiness.
“The thing that is most important for what we need out of an AED and what Avive provides is the portability, connectivity, and durability. If it’s misplaced, which can happen, the GPS will allow us to locate it wherever it is.”
